Why Choose Montessori Beds?

A Montessori bed is more than just a place to sleep. Inspired by the Montessori philosophy, these beds are low to the ground, allowing children to get in and out of bed on their own. This fosters self-confidence, independence, and freedom of movement. At Petite Amélie, our Montessori floor beds are thoughtfully designed to create a safe and inviting space where your child can rest and play independently. Every bed is crafted from quality wood and meets the safety standard BS 8509.

Benefits of Montessori Floor Beds

Promoting Independence and Confidence

The primary goal of a Montessori floor bed is to encourage independence. Keeping the bed low to the ground lets children freely get in and out whenever they choose. This helps them develop autonomy in their daily routines, including going to bed, waking up, or even playing quietly in the morning. A flexible side rail comes with every bed for added reassurance; it mounts on the left or right and removes entirely once your child no longer needs it.

  • Low design: Allows children to access their bed independently.

  • Flexible side rail: Mounts left or right for reassurance, and lifts out when the moment comes.

  • Fostering self-confidence: Kids gain confidence as they learn to manage their sleep routine on their own.

Encouraging a Calm, Child-Centered Environment

Montessori beds help create a child-centered space that encourages both rest and play. With the bed being easily accessible, children feel more in control of their environment, which can make transitioning to sleep smoother. A toddler floor bed can also serve as a cosy nook for reading or quiet play, providing a versatile space for your child's needs.

  • Child-friendly space: The bed can double as a place for quiet activities like reading.

  • Encourages responsibility: Children can easily make their bed and manage their space.

Safe and Comfortable Sleeping Environment

Our Montessori beds are made with safety and comfort in mind. Crafted from quality natural wood, these beds offer a sturdy, durable sleeping area with a slatted base included. With a simple design and low height, parents can feel confident that their child is settled while learning to sleep independently.

  • Quality wood: Lacquered (Natural) and water-based varnish (Walnut) finishes.

  • Durable craftsmanship: Built to last through your child's early years.

  • Slatted base included: A sturdy foundation comes with every bed in the range.

Why a Floor Bed is Perfect for Toddlers

Moving from a cot to a bed is a big step for toddlers. A toddler floor bed eases that move, letting little ones adjust at their own pace. Petite Amélie's 70×140 cm beds suit children from 18 months up to around 4 years, while the 80×160 cm 2-in-1 grows on from 4 years by switching between a floor bed and a raised junior bed. Because children can move freely, they feel more secure and independent while staying close to the ground.

  • Smooth transition: A floor bed eases the move from cot to bed, making toddlers feel secure.

  • Safe height: Even for active sleepers, the low height keeps things reassuring.

  • Supports independence: Children can easily get in and out of bed on their own.

Montessori Bed Sizes: From Toddler to Junior

The range spans three sizes so a bed can match your child's stage. Mattresses are sold separately and must match the inner sleeping surface exactly.

  • 70×140 cm (toddler): For 18 months to 4 years. Available in Natural or Walnut finishes. Maximum mattress height 10 cm.

  • 80×160 cm (junior, 2-in-1): For 4 to 6 years. Switches between a floor bed and a raised junior bed with interchangeable corner posts, and in the raised setting works with an underbed drawer or trundle (sold separately). Maximum mattress height 10 cm.

  • 140×200 cm (double floor bed): For 4 to 12 years, a generous low bed that carries children well into their school years. Maximum mattress height 12 cm.

Materials and Safety

Each bed is built to last and made to reassure. Our «Nid» collection uses FSC 100% certified solid pine wood with lacquered (Natural) or water-based varnish (Walnut) finishes, and a slatted base is included with every bed. All beds meet the safety standard BS 8509. For the 70×140 cm toddler beds, keep the gap to the wall either under 65 mm or over 230 mm; for the 80×160 cm beds, place the bed tight to the wall or leave a gap of more than 300 mm.
