At four, play grows bigger: little cooks, storytellers and builders who want to do it all themselves. Our gifts for 4 year olds meet that spark with wooden play kitchens, multi-floor dolls' houses, foldable play mats and desks that grow alongside them. Each piece is made to last well beyond a single birthday, so it becomes part of the everyday.

Four-year-olds love pretend worlds they can run themselves. The wooden play kitchen XL «Noisette» opens that door with three zones for cooking, washing and chilling, clicking oven knobs and a nine-piece metal set to stir and serve. Storytellers gravitate to the «Victoire» dolls' house, three floors and four opening doors ready for small adventures. For quiet afternoons, a foldable play mat gives a soft, wipe-clean base for building and drawing. You'll find more ideas across our wooden toys collection and the wider gifts for children range.
These are gifts you keep. Play kitchens, dolls' houses and desks are made from durable materials and finished with water-based, child-friendly paints and smooth lacquers. Designed for everyday play, each piece combines lasting quality with a calm, timeless look that fits naturally into a child's room.
Most of our wooden toys suit ages three and up, so they sit comfortably with a four-year-old. A few picks grow further still:
Play kitchens & dolls' houses — ages 3–6, for role play and shared storytelling.
House-shaped desk «Maison» — ages 3–12, adjustable to three heights as they grow.
Foldable play mat — from 12 months to 9 years, a soft base the whole room can share.
For furniture that carries on into the school years, browse the children's room from 6 years, or set up a cosy corner with pieces from the toddler room 2-5 years.
Four-year-olds love pretend play that mirrors the grown-up world around them: cooking a meal, running a home, caring for dolls. Wooden play kitchens with clicking knobs and removable sinks, multi-floor dolls' houses, and open-ended play mats all invite this kind of imaginative play. They also enjoy pieces that let them do things themselves, which is why our Montessori-inspired furniture sits at child height.
Dolls, doll bedding and small accessories are usually sold separately from our dolls' houses, dressing tables and play kitchens. This lets you build a set to suit the child, since our dolls' houses, doll families, dollhouse furniture and kitchen accessories are all designed to work together. It's worth adding a matching doll family so the house is ready to play with straight away.
Most wooden toys and furniture, including play kitchens, dolls' houses and desks, arrive flat and are assembled by an adult. Smaller pieces like dolls, doll bedding and kitchen accessory sets are ready to play straight away with no assembly needed. Do keep the light-and-sound XL «Noisette» kitchen in mind: it runs on 2× AAA batteries, which aren't included.
Our round muslin cotton play mats are machine washable at 30°C, and cotton rugs wash the same way. The foldable foam play mat has a PU leather surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth, so spills and crumbs lift away easily. Note that most cotton rugs have no anti-slip backing, so a non-slip underlay is worth adding underneath.
