The difference with normal cotton is that organic cotton is not processed with chemical pesticides. To allow the cotton plant to grow well, it is provided with vegetable and animal waste. Insects are used as a pesticide. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a global quality mark that sets requirements for the production of organic fibres. For example, they demand that manufacturers keep the damage to the environment as limited as possible, for example by using a sustainable wastewater system and using water and energy efficiently. The working conditions must also meet the standards set by the International Labour Organisation. For example, the right to good, safe and healthy working conditions
