Colourful, playful and funky: that’s how Sabine (@sabinezarr) and Sharon describe their style. Their house isn’t big, so everything in it needs to have a purpose. They find inspiration everywhere, from social media to Pinterest. Together with their sons, Moos and baby Sim, they live in a cheerful home where toys don’t have to be hidden away, but are simply part of the interior.Discover how Petite Amélie’s pieces blend effortlessly into their colourful, funky interior, and shop Sabine’s favourites.
For Sabine and Sharon, one thing comes first: feeling truly at home. Comfort matters, and because space is limited, every corner is used cleverly. The best example is their favourite spot in the house: the window frame. By building a cover around the radiator, they created a kind of little bay window with a large seat cushion. Moos can spend hours there playing or reading, while Sabine and Sharon enjoy a lovely cup of coffee.
"I'd rather look at a huge wall of colouring pages than at a big white radiator." — Sabine
To be fair, Sabine and Sharon had imagined that their house wouldn’t be taken over by toys. These days, they’re literally everywhere. But if you work them into your interior in a fun way, it doesn’t have to be a problem at all. There’s room for toys and for the boys’ artwork. And because the house is so colourful, a fire truck lying on the floor barely even stands out. Sabine describes the family as relaxed and loving. With two freelancers in the house, no two days are the same: “We’re super unstructured. We literally dance our way through every day, and the kids (usually) happily join in.” One thing is non-negotiable: the boys should feel so at ease that they dare to say anything. There’s room for everything, as long as they keep talking to each other. Moos is a gentle soul: eager to learn, sweet, and someone who likes to watch from a distance first. Sim is incredibly cheerful and curious, hardly ever cries and is already really funny. Is that possible at six months? “I guess so.”
The first Petite Amélie item to arrive in their home was a fitted sheet for Moos's mattress, back when he was a baby. Sabine was looking for something cosier than a plain colour and fell for the stripes. Then, of course, came the fire station: Moos's ultimate dream toy. The children's desk has also found its place. It's beautiful and super practical, and Sabine finds the rounded corners very stylish. The little chairs move around the house: to the coffee table or as a stool in the kitchen. So when does this house really feel like home? "Here I can do whatever I want. If I feel like throwing a pot of paint at the wall, I can. This is where I see my little ones grow. How rich we really are."
"A lot of things in our home are really 'in your face'. That's exactly why I love combining them with more neutral items from Petite Amélie, for balance." — Sabine
